Listening Blog #7 - Week 11/1
This week I chose to listen to A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke. This song speaks volumes especially in today's society. When the Black Lives Matter movement began this song became a symbol to people. It is as powerful today, as it was then. Cooke sings with such passion in this song, you can tell this song is personal to him. The lyrics hit hard when you realize the struggles that a man has is affected heavily by the simple color of his skin. The music is beautiful as soon as you hear the instrumental start it gives you literal chills. The trumpets are my favorite part, it almost makes the song more powerful. The audience this song is directed at, is everyone but also people who have been waiting for the system to change. When I went to protest for the BLM movement they played this song and it brought me to tears. The fact that this song is still relevant to our lives today is crazy to me. This song is moving and provides hope that one day a change really is going to come and I think that's beautiful because we all need a little hope in our lives.
I really like your description of the instruments giving power to the song. I totally agree and thought the same thing. His voice is so powerful and I love it too. The lyrics also do hit very hard for how personal it is and how it relates to him and others. it also give literal chills without a doubt.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your analysis of this song! I think it is really interesting how an old song can still be so relevant today. I also think this song is a really cool way to call for change and music has the real power to change people's opinions and beliefs.
