Listening Blog #2 - Week 9/27
The song I chose this week is Deed I Do by Ruth Etting. I enjoyed this song a lot because of its upbeat melody and the lyrics are quite beautiful if you really listen to it. The song is a way of reassurance to the person Ruth loves. The lyrics repeated the questions "do I want you", "do I need you", and "do I love you". Each time Etting replying "Oh my, I do". She implies that she meets a lot of people everyday, yet they're the one she wants to spend her time with. It's sweet how she reassures her lover that it is them that she wants, no one else. The song feels as if one were dancing around daydreaming of their crush and just being completely in la la land about them. The music in the back compliments Ruth's voice as she has a very high pitched voice that blends perfectly with tune. This song is simple and sweet. The target audience would be those who wanted to dance at that time, which I believe would be the perfect song to swing your partner around to. I also think the audience are people in love and wanting to show that love to their partner. I enjoyed this song a lot and think the reassurance she gives to whomever she's singing to is beautiful.
I enjoyed reading about your perspective on the song "Deed I Do" quite a lot! I personally love anything that has to due with love, and your perspective is so sweet! I agree with what you said about Ruth Etting's reassurance, and that she always felt the same about her love, no matter how many people she met each and every day. That feeling of being lost in la la land with your crush totally matches that of the song! The song itself was probably a great way for a man to sweep a beautiful woman off their feet, and fall in love with them on the dance floor!
