Listening Blog #10 - Week 11/29

For this weeks blog I decided to talk about the iconic song Fuck The Police by N.W.A. Now if you don’t like the word fuck don’t read this blog. This song was and still is a banger and is still relevant as hell in today's society. This song was controversial and made a lot of people mad but they were using music to express how they felt. This beat of this song is so good and the added commentary throughout the song makes it 10x better. I love the way they simply went in on this song and did not care about the consequences of the lyrics. Basically to summarize up these lyrics they are talking about how cops racially profile black people so it’s a message to them which is simply...fuck the police. The feelings in this song is clearly anger, we can tell that they're all so fed up with how they are being treated and took it out in the studio. The rapping and beat flow perfectly together and compliment each other perfectly. Clearly the target audience is black people fed up with th...

Listening Blog #9 - Week 11/15

For this week's blog post I decided to write about Tina Turner’s song What's Love Got to Do With It. Miss Tina Turner is an icon in general so there was no doubt that I had to talk about this song. The beat to this song is so good and it literally makes you want to get up and dance. Turner’s voice goes perfectly with this beat and honestly it couldn’t be better. The lyrics can be relatable to a lot of people. She talks about how she's clearly been hurt in the past and is scared to love so she's asking what love has to do with it. The audience this is targeted at is people who want to be “physical” but don’t want feelings of love involved or literally anyone who likes the beat and wants to dance. I like this song a lot and my family played a lot of Tina Turner growing up so I know a lot of her work and this being one of my favorites. The lyrics “who needs a heart, when a heart can be broken?” goes so hard haha. Tina Turner absolutely ate with this song and it's fore...

Listening Blog #8 - 11/8

This week I decided to analyze the song What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye. I think it's safe to say that a solid amount of people were conceived to Marvin Gaye during this time haha. This song on the other hand is a little deeper than his usual music. He talks about how there needs to be more loving in the world and not so much violence. He says “We don't need to escalate. You see, war is not the answer. For only love can conquer hate” and follows up with “Picket lines and picket signs. Don't punish me with brutality. Talk to me, so you can see...Oh, what's going on”. These are some strong lyrics and portray the message that violence is not the answer and things can simply be talked through. This conveys an emotion of peace and harmony within the audience and creates a sense of unity. The audience is definitely everyone who needs to hear the message. Marvin Gaye’s voice is perfect and blends beautifully with the instrumental. This song makes me want to give someone a hug ...
